Happy New Year!

 Happy Week Back, Folks!

We hope you all had a good break. It was important to put some juice back in the batteries. That said, the kids (and we!) were pretty tired by the end of the week, we hope they get their “school legs” back over the weekend!

Many of the kids are hard at work on some great cardboard creations. We re-watched Caine’s Arcade and the kids got to work making their own games. There are a lot of basketball games but also some launchers, too! These creations will be coming home next week.

We also got to do some formal reading assessments with the kids this week and they did super. They are all reading beginning level texts and are working hard in class on reading their sight words, working on building and reading consonant-vowel-consonant words (c-a-t, d-o-g, b-a-t, etc.), and doing lots of writing using words on their word ring. Again, If you are looking for beginning reader books for your kiddos, here is a place where you can find them for pre-readers and beginning readers:

The kids are also beginning their work on their online iReady math assessment. They are doing a super job on this. Their results on this assessment guide what level of work the kids work on while they are using the program. We have continued to do work using dot clusters as well as introducing the use of a balance to lay the foundation for the understanding of equations (2+3 balances with 5, for example).

We hope you are all well, please let us know if you need anything or have any questions.

Take care,

Ben and Honi

Important Updates:

  • Please make sure your child has a water bottle and sneakers as well as their winter gear.

  • Drop-off will now be at the front door. We think our kindergarteners are ready to walk in with the big kids! Pickup will still be out of our back door. If your child is able to independently buckle, please let us know if you’d like your child picked up at the pick-up circle instead.

  • Pickup will be at the traffic circle. We will no longer be dismissing your child from the back kindergarten door. You can still park and come and get them or you can do the drive-through, it is up to you!

Conversation starters:

*What did you do in PE, Art, Library, Spanish and Guidance this week?

*Did you sleep during rest time this week?

*What book did you get to read with Ben on Friday?

*Try "partner counting" with your student (you say 1, they say 2, you say 3, they say 4....).

*What did you play at recess?

*Look at the new photos in our photo album. They are great conversation starters!
